FaithX gave me so much more than just guidance to live my faith at work
It’s been close to a year ever since I have enrolled in FaithX and I am really grateful for my experience thus far.
As I reflect on my FaithX journey, the reason why I signed up for the programme was for the need of a spiritual mentor, specifically one who is experienced in my career that he/she may be a wise counsel unto not just my career path but also my life especially since he/she has already walked the path and has surely collected gems of wisdom along the hills and valleys – this was surely the case when I was matched with Miss Tan Wee King, who was ever so willing to share her life with me.
Looking back, this is a journey that I encourage young working professionals and graduating university students to embark on because sometimes we need the encouragement from someone wiser that we too can be salt and light in the workplace when we are no longer in our safe bubble in the university.
I think my expectations were such that there would be regular meetups with my mentor: one who would be a listening ear and also a guiding voice for my entry into my career – nursing.
What I gained was more than that – through Miss Tan’s connections with Singapore Nursing Christian Fellowship (SNCF), I was able to meet like-minded Christian nurses who are sowing into the kingdom through working in healthcare! There was once when I went on a silent retreat with some of them and that was a really blessed day for me as I got to rest and recharge with God when I went through spiritual exercises whereby I had to contend with questions regarding my calling and my area of concern of which I could be of service to. These helped me to refocus on God as I realised through these exercises that the calling of God is high and there is definitely a need to draw my strength and love from Him to be able to steward what He has called me to do well. There was also another time whereby I was attending the Annual General Meeting with the members of SNCF and my heart was so encouraged to see the old guards of nursing still around praying for nurses in Singapore. There have also been stories of missionary nurses and I too was encouraged by their fervent heart of serving beyond the borders, to where the needs are greater.
One thing that those who are interested in joining the programme should know is that they should come in with open minds and open hearts. This journey is a path peppered with gems – you never know what will come out of your experience with FaithX but what I can assure you is that as long as you and your mentor are making a commitment to one another with open minds and open hearts, it will be worthwhile and fulfilling. Hence, I would encourage young working professionals and graduating university students to join this programme! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Lastly, I would like to thank Miss Tan for being an encouraging mentor unto my life. She has been a great guide in my journey into nursing. I pray that everyone at FaithX will continue to thrive with another year of forging meaningful and value-added connections.
